WHEN YOU FINISH THIS SECTION, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PERFORM THE FOLLOWING TASKS AND ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS
  1. Describe the Anatomical Position.

  2. When the cadaver is lying on its back on the dissection table (supine), is the anterior surface of the cadaver visible to you or is it touching the surface of the table?

  3. Do you understand the terms of comparison and relationship listed above? Make up a sentence in which you use each one correctly. Example: The elbow is located _______ to the shoulder.

  4. Beginning in the anatomical position, demonstrate each of the actions described above under the heading "TERMS OF MOVEMENT".

  5. Define what is meant by the term "anatomical variation". What impact will anatomical variation have on you as you study and practice medicine?

Although your textbook presents an extensive listing of abbreviations on pages 11 and 12, the faculty of this course will expect you to use the full name of a structure when discussing it in the laboratory. On test day, we will expect you to write the full name of the anatomical structure when answering practical examination questions.
